September 11th 2001 or commonly just called 9/11, what happened on that day, and what has changed everyday since? Well we all know that the the Twin Towers were destroyed and nearly 3000 people were killed, but here is the story of what happened after the event.

On September 11, 2001 a terrorist group called Al Qaeda hijacked four airplanes mid-flight, two of them crashed into the twin towers, one into the Pentagon and the last in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, Officials believe that this last plane intended to crash into the White House, or the U.S. Capitol, but the passengers on the plane fought back causing them to crash into the ground.

After 9/11, the U.S, and it’s allies invaded Afghanistan where Al Qaeda was located, and they killed or captured members of Al Qaeda. Then on May 1, 2011 U.S. troops successfully killed the leader of Al Qaeda and planner of 9/11,Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan where he was hiding.

Later in 2003, the U.S. invaded Iraq because they believed the country’s leader Saddam Hussein was hiding powerful weapons that he was gonna give to the terrorists. He was captured and executed by an Iraqi court. Unfortunately no weapons of mass destruction were found.

After these events the U.S. Government tightened security at airports and created a new Cabinet called the Department of Homeland Security to protect the U.S. from terrorism.

These events still effect modern politics today with terrorist groups still committing crimes against humanity, and troops still in Middle-Eastern countries.  The american people are a strong breed and we will continue to get stronger through the ups and downs in our nation.
