During the Christmas season, many families and friends search for holiday activities to do without travelling extreme distances. What holiday activities are there close to home.

Trail of Lights    

One of the most well known Christmas events is Austin’s own Trail of Lights. From December 9-23, Zilker Park will be lit with 2+ million lights for people to visit and enjoy. They have more than 40 light displays, showcasing everything from nativity scenes to Disney princesses. Over 400,000 Texans flock to the trail of lights each year for food, hot chocolate, and music.

 

Holiday Sing-A-Long and Downtown Stroll

Come out on Saturday, December 2nd and stroll down Austin’s Congress Ave while listening to music and drinking hot cocoa. Gather underneath the glowing capital tree for a Christmas sing-along and browse through the multiple shops down the stroll path. Santa himself will be there to take pictures with you, young and old alike.

 

 

Ice Skate on a Roof!

Each year around the holidays, Whole Foods Market in Downtown Austin offers ice skating on its roof. Ice skate with your family, friends, or that special someone while overlooking the view of the Austin skyline. It is open November 24th – January 15th and costs $10, including skate rentals

 

See The Nutcracker

Come and watch the classic holiday ballet, The Nutcracker, in Austin’s Long Center. It is the 55th annual performance, and it features hundreds of dancers, and beautiful costumes and sets. Listen to the wonderful Austin Symphony Orchestra play in the background and de-stress from the holiday craziness. It is showing December 8th-23rd.
